Lynchburg College and Historic Sandusky in Lynchburg, Virginia present a digital history documenting artifacts from the American Civil War. These artifacts, documents, diaries, and photographs give insight into the lives of men, women, children, civilians, and soldiers in Lynchburg and surrounding areas during the Civil War.

This site was created by 2017 Westover Honors Program students enrolled in ‘Common Soldiers of the Civil War’ taught by Dr. Adam W. Dean, at Lynchburg College. With the help of Historic Sandusky, students in the class examined numerous Civil War documents and built this digitally accessible collection. This Digital Archive was made possible with a grant from the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust.
